Dieudonné Rouanez was born on May 21, 1920, in Petion-Ville, Haiti. He started art by himself then studied it under the supervision of late noted Voodoo artist Gerard Valcin at the Centre d’Art. He was greatly known for his exceptional style in showing voodoo themes. He used bright colors in his paintings. " Reduced to the two-dimensionality of the painted surface, Rouanez subject finds their strength in the rhythmic structure." (Gérald Alexis in his book "Peintres Haitiens")
