This is an original painting duly signed by the late noted Haitian Gesner Armand. It depicts a pigeon scene in a banana field backgrounds, and it's a 16"x20" oil painted on canvas painted in 1996. The painting was restored by the famous Frantz Zephirin on Nov 9,2020 and signed on the back.
Gesner Armand was born in 1936 in Croix-des Bouquets. He was initiated into drawing and watercolor at the Centre d'Art in 1956 , and was granted a scholarship by the French Government in 1961 to study art in Paris. He lived in Paris for 2 years and came back to the Croix des Bouquets. He was the curator for the Musee d'Art Haitien in Port-au-Prince for a couple of years. He studied art both in Paris and Mexico. As a renown Haitian painter, he has exhibited in Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Paris, Spain, Jamaica, Martinique, Venezuela, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Israel . He is known for his luminous country scenes and his pigeons; and although his still-lives reveal an undeniable Mexican Influence his art reflects the strong love he has for his country, Haiti. Armand passed on June 10, 2008.
